Title

The Story of Most Hawaiian Families

Description

The Story of Most Hawaiian Famillies is a collection of letter-pressed and wood-carved prints on hand-made paper that shares most Hawaiian’s experience with the Hawaiian language. Due to the banning of ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi, my family, along with many others, are not able to speak or understand Hawaiian. When I asked my grandfather if he ever spoke Hawaiian in his younger days, he just laughed because the American government had bastardized ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi to the point where people were ashamed to speak or teach Hawaiian. Thus, my family and I are left feeling disconnected from our  culture.
